Reserves Face Leicester Wed 30th Aug 2000 10:49 Town are to field a strong reserve side in tonight's first home game with Leicester City. Gary Croft, Martijn Reuser, John McGreal, Wayne Brown and Keith Branagan are amongst the experienced players in the squad for the game which kicks off at 7pm. The game will be an ideal opportunity for players such as McGreal to stake a claim for a first team place. Town's Dutch youngsters Nabil Abidallah and Guillermo Graaven are included before they meet up with their U18 international squad next month. Also in the squad is Benoit Subrin who is a 17-year-old right back on trial from Lyon. Town squad: Branagan, Pullen, Nicholls, Croft, McGreal, J Miller, Brown, Moffat, Reuser, Niven, Abidallah, Midgley, Graaven, Subrin, English and Artun. |
Town 1 - 0 Sunderland Sat 26th Aug 2000 17:36 Town stormed to their first Premiership win with a superb display for which Sunderland had little answer. A magnificent Kevin Beattie-like goal from centre-half Titus Bramble gave Town the points, but in truth the margin of victory should have been much much more. |
Johnson for England Tue 22nd Aug 2000 10:39 Town manager George Burley has said that Town striker may still have a chance of making it in an England shirt despite last season's international shenanigans. Johnson was linked with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as it was thought his possession of a British passport despite being born outside the UK meant he was eligible for any of the home countries. This however was found to be untrue as his mother was born in England. |
Spurs 3 - 1 Ipswich Sat 19th Aug 2000 18:02 Town fell to defeat in their first game back in the Premiership, although it was not all bad news for George Burley’s men. The Blues lined up with new signing Hermann Hreidarsson lining up in the middle of a back three with Titus Bramble to his right and Mark Venus to his left. Up front David Johnson partnered Marcus Stewart who started despite the rumours yesterday, with James Scowcroft, Jim Magilton and Matt Holland in midfield. The wing backs were Gary Croft and Jamie Clapham. |

Scales Signing Confirmed Wed 05th Jul 2000 15:46 Town have confirmed the signing of John Scales. The 34-year-old signs for one year on a free after being released by Tottenham. |
Club Confirm Scales Medical Tue 04th Jul 2000 20:31 Town have confirmed that John Scales had a medical at Portman Road today and will announce the result tomorrow. Scales himself has been saying how much he relishes the opportunity Town have given him: "The thought of living and playing in London by joining Wimbledon was a mouth-watering one. It was where I started my career and I have great respect for their manager Terry Burton. But the pull of the Premiership is a strong one. I've played more than 500 games in my career, the majority in the top flight and I want to stay there. I hope this initial one-year deal will be the start of an even longer career with Ipswich. This is an exciting opportunity for me." |
Wright Decision Today Thu 29th Jun 2000 10:44 Usually reliable sources are indicating that today will see Town make an announcement on the future of England keeper Richard Wright. And the clever money seems to be on the 22-year-old failing to put his name on a new contract and therefore being put on the transfer list. Most were expecting Town to make an announcement tomorrow when Wright was due to come back to manager George Burley after speaking to him last Friday. Wright has one year of his contract left and Town want to avoid him going abroad on a Bosman or at a reduced fee to another UK club. |
